This isn’t a reply so much as shout into/at the universe. I’ve been trying so hard to work out what my life is or could be about let alone fit that to a career. I’ve been trying so hard to not think that all of life is a distraction from death, that we are not just filling time. I’ve been trying so hard to not think of almost everything as so very mundane in the face of this. And yet I still feel there are secrets to the universe – patterns, geometries, entropies – that make it tick so precisely in all its sublime glory and although it is hard going to live in this thought your whole life, this is what I feel is important in it. I think I’ve always thought this or at least since puberty. Life is a triumph over death as well as a part of it. Life is a part of death as it is a finite thing but by this it is felt and known all the more strongly.
These mandalas and geometries for me express this. If death is the cold, hard stone of logic than life (and death) are in these pictures; these pictures are the facing of death/the universe/the void head on – seeing patterns and reacting to them, colouring them in, extrapolating them out. Knowing them, understanding them, being them in that in the moment of viewing them that is all we are aware of.
Perhaps there is no right way, there is no morality (beyond ourselves), there is only this: Seeing the universe and yelling back.
